All
internships are open until filled. Duration is from January through
May 2008
(Minimum of four month commitment with the possibility of extension.)

DJPC
internships are competitive and offer substantial experience in
the topical area. All internships are unpaid. We
can work with academic institutions if you intend to receive academic
credit for your internship through your college or university.
ONLY Colorado-based candidates please. Due to limited resources,
we cannot accommodate out-of-state or internaitonally-based candidates.
Latin
American Human Rights Advocacy Internship
DJPC
is accepting applications for a Human Rights Advocacy Intern to
coordinate the organization's legislative outreach efforts and membership
advocacy campaigns. Our activism work includes topics surrounding
human rights violations, increased militarization, U.S. – Latin
American free trade agreements, the School of the Americas, genocide,
etc. This post will require 10-12 hours of commitment per week,
including occasional evening and weekend commitment for attendance
at meetings and events.
Duties
include :
- Working
with DJPC's Advocacy and Nonviolent Activism Committee to plan
and prepare actions and events surrounding focal legislative issues
(for example: communicating with the offices of U.S. Senators
and Representatives, organizing lobby visits, mounting letter-writing
efforts, sending out action alerts, networking with other advocacy
groups.)
- Tracking
proposed pending and proposed legislation that will have an impact
in Latin America and is related to specific DJPC program initiatives.
- Building
relationship with members of other Latin America rights organizations
here in Denver as well as on a national level and with Colorado
Congressional staff members.
- Developing
a legislative update page for the DJPC website and newsletter.
- Assist Director
of Program Services as needed with office duties such as mailings,
telephone, database maintenance, etc.
Guatemala
Human Rights Internship
DJPC
is accepting applications for an intern dedicated to promoting the
work of our CAMINOS committee (Colorado/Maya Accompaniment Project
of the Sierra) which includes human rights accompaniment and a rural
community health promotion project in Guatemala . This intern will
work directly with the CAMINOS Steering Committee and the Director
of Program Services to achieve the fall goals for the Guatemala
programs. This post will require 10-12 hours of commitment per week,
including occasional evening and weekend attendance at meetings
and events.
Duties
include :
Attend all CAMINOS Steering Committee meetings (once
a month in the evening). Assist in setting agenda, supplying materials,
information and follow-up as needed.
Help organize and advertise the October 21 Build for Peace Fundraiser
sponsored by CAMINOS. Assist coordinator in overseeing the schedule,
volunteer organization, paperwork, donations and work with site
coordinator to ensure the work day goes smoothly. Complete follow-up
and record keeping.
Grants work - Completing a variety of grants in support of the CAMINOS
program goals; compiling, editing and assembling grant materials
including narratives and budgets; Updating the grants calendar and
managing files; Researching and contacting funding sources; Preparing
final reports to funders.
Assist in creating long-term plan for the PROMESA
health promotion project through research and outreach.
Complete CAMINOS Power point presentation and other
special projects.
Take the lead in layout, printing and mailing of
CAMINOS newsletters.
Help organize CAMINOS fundraising events for spring.
Outreach to community groups, churches etc. to publicize CAMINOS
purpose and events.
Assist Director of Program Services as needed with office duties
such as mailings, telephone, database maintenance, etc.
Fundraising/Marketing
Internship
DJPC
is accepting applications for a Fundraising/Marketing Intern to
help the organizaiton with promotion of special events, grant writing
and our quarterly newsletter.. This post will require 10-12 hours
of commitment per week, including occasional evening and weekend
attendance at meetings and events.
Duties
include :
Take a leading role in advertising and promoting special events
such as the wine tasting beneift on Sept 6 and the Annual Celebration
on Nov 3.
Work with the Fundraising/Marketing committee and Director of Program
Services to ensure proper implementation of the fall schedule. (Includes
attendance at fundraising/marketing meetings). Help set the spring
goals/schedule.
Help
prepare a long-term plan for outreach to media, community groups,
churches etc.
Review DJPC publicity materials and make suggestions
for improvement. Ensure all necessary items are in stock and available
for all DJPC events.
Assist with composition, of the semi-annual fund-letter
and oversee layout, printing and mailing.
Assist Director of Program Services as needed with
office duties such as mailings, telephone, database maintenance,
etc.
Event
& Outreach Coordinator
DJPC
is accepting applications for an Events & Media Coordinator
Intern to coordinate its fall/winter events calendar which will
include our Annual Celebration and Global Peace Awards (Nov 3) and
our salon series which takes place on the evening of the third Thursday
of each month.. This post will require 8-10 hours of commitment
per week, including occasional evening and weekend commitment for
attendance at meetings and events.
Duties
include:
Help organize a new special events committee. Work
with the Committee and Director of Program Services to complete
planning, preparation, volunteer organization and direction of DJPC
events.
Act as the lead coordinator for Central America Week
Activities (March).
Complete membership outreach and media publicity
for DJPC events. Update and expand on media outreach materials and
protocols.
Send out weekly events updates to e-mail listserve.
Website updates as needed.
Coordinate publication of the March and May issues
of our Mustard Seed newsletter and oversee mailing.
Write articles covering events for publication in
the newsletter and on the website.
Assist Director of Program Services as needed with
office duties such as mailings, telephone, database maintenance,
website updates etc.
